Every Ride Makes
a Difference
|
When a
husband and wife are both facing
serious illnesses, getting to
medical appointments can become a
significant challenge, especially
when neither is able to drive. For
one SOAR supported couple in their
seventies, living on a monthly
income of just $2,200, the long
distance to the critical medical
care they each needed made getting
to those appointments even more
difficult.
SOAR has
been able to provide rides for both
of them, helping ensure they can get
to the medical care they need. A
ride can sometimes be about so much
more than simply getting there. For
this couple, SOAR’s transportation
program provides a sense of
independence during a challenging
time while easing the stress of
getting to important appointments.
With transportation taken care of,
they can focus on what matters most
- their health.
The
husband recently shared that he
appreciates the kindness of SOAR’s
staff and volunteers and is thankful
that SOAR provides them with a
dependable way to get to their
medical appointments.
By
providing transportation to medical
appointments, we help improve the
quality of life for low-income
seniors in our community by removing
a barrier that might otherwise
prevent them from getting the care
they need. We are grateful to our
volunteers and supporters, whose
generosity makes SOAR’s
transportation program possible and
ensures that seniors get to their
appointments safely and reliably,
with confidence and peace of mind.

August
is Make-A-Will Month!
|
Have you made your will?
August is
Make-A-Will Month.
It is a perfect time to put
your wishes in writing and make
a lasting difference.
Creating or updating your will is
one of the most thoughtful things
you can do for yourself and the
people and causes you care about. It
can provide peace of mind, help
ensure your wishes are honored, and
give you the opportunity to support
the organizations that matter most
to you.
Consider including
Supporting Older Adults Through
Resources (SOAR) in your legacy
plans.
A gift through your will, retirement
account, or life insurance policy
can help ensure that SOAR is here
for vulnerable seniors for
generations to come. You can choose
a specific dollar amount, a
percentage of your estate, or
another gift that works for you.
Your legacy gift can help ensure
that someday, when a senior needs
help, there will be
someone to call and a place to
turn.
It’s more than a
gift. It’s a powerful
way to say, “Our seniors
matter.”
This August, take a moment to make
or update your will and consider
leaving a legacy that will continue
to change lives long after you’re
gone.
Your
generosity today can make a
difference for seniors
tomorrow.

SOAR's
Transportation Program offers
free rides to medical
appointments for
low-income seniors who do not own a
car or are no longer able to drive.
We
recognize that some seniors need
more than just transportation, they
benefit from door-to-door assistance
and support during their
appointments. With this in mind, we
offer the option of
caregiver-assisted transportation,
ensuring seniors have a companion to
help them safely get to and from
medical visits.
|
SOAR is
looking for caring and dependable
volunteer drivers for our
transportation program. Your time
and support can make a meaningful
difference in helping seniors get to
important medical appointments. If
you are interested in volunteering,
please apply here.
SOAR
is the grateful recipient of a
minivan, which allows us to
offer our volunteers the option
of using their own car or the
SOAR minivan when transporting
our seniors to their
appointments.
We are sincerely
grateful to Mark and Susan Butt
and the Rotary Club of Frederick
for making this possible.

Through a generous
partnership with
Frederick Health, SOAR is
able to operate a medical
equipment center. We accept
donated items and then
provide items on loan or for
permanent use.
