Over the past few years, one of our senior clients, a woman in her late seventies, has participated in several of SOAR's programs and services. Living alone on a monthly income of $1,500, she recently experienced a serious medical complication that left her unable to walk. During that challenging time, she was able to benefit from the resources provided by SOAR's Medical Equipment Center. And when a beloved family member passed away, SOAR helped arrange transportation so she could attend the funeral and be with her loved ones during a difficult time.
As a homebound senior, she participates in our Food and More Program, which provides biweekly grocery shopping and delivery. She recently expressed her gratitude for the assistance she receives, especially the kindness and dedication of the volunteer who delivers her groceries every other week. She says that knowing her volunteer is coming brightens her day. When delivering groceries, the volunteer brings them into her home, helps put them away, and often ends each visit with a kind hug.
For someone who spends much of her time alone, that personal connection can have a major impact. Knowing she will have a visit from her “delivery angel,” as she affectionately calls her volunteer, along with the reliable support SOAR provides through food, medical equipment and supplies, and transportation has made a meaningful difference in her daily life. |
Stories like this are becoming more common. With your support, compassionate and meaningful help is possible when it's needed most. |

SOAR's Transportation Program offers free rides to medical appointments for low-income seniors who do not own a car or are no longer able to drive.
We recognize that some seniors need more than just transportation, they benefit from door-to-door assistance and support during their appointments. With this in mind, we offer the option of caregiver-assisted transportation, ensuring seniors have a companion to help them safely get to and from medical visits. |
SOAR is looking for caring and dependable volunteer drivers for our transportation program. Your time and support can make a meaningful difference in helping seniors get to important medical appointments. If you are interested in volunteering, please apply here.
SOAR is the grateful recipient of a minivan, which allows us to offer our volunteers the option of using their own car or the SOAR minivan when transporting our seniors to their appointments. We are sincerely grateful to Mark and Susan Butt and the Rotary Club of Frederick for making this possible. |
